Budapest is two beautiful cities in one…
…With an amazing gay life too! The two cities of Buda and Pest, on the opposite sides of the Danube, were finally united into one big beautiful capital of Hungary in 1873.
The city is a gem full of interesting ancient and modern sights: it is a magnificent expression of the atavistic Hungarian pretension to find their spotlight in the world, or in Europe at least.
Budapest is a must see: the architecture is amazing, comprising different styles, from the Classic to the Gothic, from the Art Nuveau to the Contemporary.
The city is pretty big: the center of the city, where all the action is, fulll of shops, restaurants, pubs, cafes, is a walkable one, but not all the sights are around it. A good idea is to take trams and buses rather than the underground in order to get a complete view of the city. In particular most of the new points of interest (such as the magnificient Parliament) are concentrated on the Pest side of the river (the new centre) but definitely worthy is to venture on the other side of the Danube: Buda hosts for example the Buda Castle and the Citadella, a fortress built in the Middle Ages in order to protect the Old City from enemies’attacks. If you want a spectacular view of Pest, my suggestion is to walk up the fortress of Buda when the night comes, so you can enjoy an amazing sight of Pest along the Danube river: in the circles below you can have an idea of what you can see just before the sun sets, but I promise you, at nigh time the view is breathtaking.
If you fancy an amazing sight of the two parts of the city from the top, then you must head to the 360 Bar, on the roof of the Paris Department Store (Párizsi Nagyáruház) on the central Andrássy street 39, in Pest. If you are lucky enough, you can enjoy an amazing view of the city at sunset, and sip a great cocktail too!
Budapest is very gay too! I happened to be there over the weekend, so I could have an amazing night out along with the tourists and the handsome locals men. I started my night pretty late (after midnight… it seemed to me to be back in Spain!), with a couple of hours dancing at the Alter Ego club where I met a beautiful Drag Queen 😉 But, not tired yet, I went to an amazing party, called Garcons: it is organized from time to time in different venues of the city! Being summertime, I had the luck to enjoy a party in an amazing outdoor scenery in the beautiful Margaret Island.
Yes! Budapest is definitely worthy a visit: easy to reach in the middle of Europe! Check it out!
